A boat trip to Formentera is one of the most complete experiences that can be lived in the Balearic Islands. It all starts by renting a boat in Ibiza, a common starting point for those looking for a different day at sea. On board a charter yacht, the crossing between Ibiza and Formentera combines the most beautiful landscapes of the Mediterranean and the freedom offered by designing a tailor-made trip to the sea thanks to the nautical charter.
Most routes start from the marinas in the port of Ibiza, but, instead of heading directly to Formentera, many itineraries include, after crossing the Strait of Es Freus, a stop in front of Es Vedrà. This islet is one of the quintessential icons of the Mediterranean and its cliffs are imposing. Jetskiing around them is an adrenaline-fueled experience.

From there, renting a boat in Ibiza allows you to continue south and anchor, already in Formentera waters, in the tranquility of Cala Saona. After a comfortable and relatively short navigation, this cove well protected from winds and currents is a good place to drop anchor.
The arrival in Formentera always marks the high point of the day. If you choose a detour, s'Espalmador or ses Illetes are a must-see. Its crystal clear waters and the white sand of these stretches of coastline, which are part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, are a spectacle. A wild environment that captivates the senses. The area, very busy in season, is very well signposted thanks to a field of buoys that delimits the anchoring areas so as not to damage the posidonia meadows.
The day can be completed with a gastronomic stop. Formentera has numerous restaurants accessible from the sea, especially in Ses Illetes and Es Pujols. It is also common to enjoy food on board, turning the boat into a private space where you can extend your lunch and enjoy it without haste. For those looking for extra activity, the day can include a good snorkeling session: the clarity of the water, especially in spring and summer, makes any dive especially attractive. The most daring can schedule jet ski excursions in Ibiza on the way there or back.

If you have more than one day to rent a boat in Ibiza and head to Formentera, the smallest island of the Balearic archipelago has a lot to offer. For example, you can go around the two capes – La Mola, to the east, and Barbaria, to the southwest – and greet the lighthouses that guide sailors. On the north coast there are also many ideal corners to dive into the sea or paddle board (sa Roqueta, es Arenals, es Caló de Sant Agustí).
The streets of es Pujols, on the other hand, are always synonymous with animation: they are full of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. To the south, the kilometre-long beach of Migjorn and es Caló des Mort show, on the other hand, the quieter and more hippie side of the Formentera territory. Their beach bars are a great option to get on the ground and let the afternoon advance by toasting with a mojito.
The return – usually at sunset – puts the finishing touch to the experience. After a day touring some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, the return to Ibiza becomes a moment of calm. An excursion that perfectly sums up the value of yacht charter in Ibiza: calm, nature and Mediterranean flavour in its purest form.
